SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION

I.    BENEFICIARY:

A.    The DHF of NC Scholarship shall be limited to any student pursuing studies for any type of ministerial degree (ex. Pastor, Youth Minister, Christian Counselor, etc.).  Scholarships are limited to members of churches affiliated with DHF of NC. In cases of questionable eligibility, the DHF of NC Leadership Council will be given the authority to determine if the student meets the necessary requirements.

B.    The recipient shall be enrolled in an accredited college, university, seminary, or Bible college and maintain a “C” average.  Any exceptions will be granted by the Scholarship Committee.

C.    Eligible students must be doing undergraduate work seeking an academic or job- related degree.

II.     ADMINISTRATION:

A.    The scholarship shall be administered by a committee of three persons who are members of a church affiliated with DHF of NC.  The first year, one person will be elected for a one-year term, one for a two-year term, and one for a three-year term.  Thereafter, members will be elected for three-year terms.  In the event of a vacancy, the Leadership Council of DHF of NC shall be authorized to make an appointment for the unexpired term of office.

B.    The scholarship award will be based upon request, financial need, and a possible interview.  The applicant shall submit two letters of recommendation.

C.     A copy of semester or quarterly grades shall be given to the Scholarship Committee.

D.     All Scholarship Fund checks shall be made directly to the institution in which the student is enrolled by the DHF of NC treasurer.  If tuition has already been paid when the scholarship is approved, the check will be made to the person who paid the tuition (Receipt of payment required).

III.     TERMS:

A.    A limit of five hundred dollars ($500.00) per semester to one individual shall be maintained, not to exceed fifteen hundred dollars ($1500.00) per school year.  This amount is based on no less than nine (9) semester hours or the equivalent thereof.  If less than 9 hours, the amount awarded will be pro-rated as follows:  6 to 8 hours, $350.00; 5 hours or less $200.00.  The total accumulated amount of the scholarship will be limited to $4,000.00 per recipient.

B.      Applications (forms to be provided) for scholarships should be submitted to the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee at least three weeks prior to the beginning of the school term.  Once the scholarship is established, the recipient will not be required to submit an application for each semester, but must submit grades to the scholarship committee with verbal request for continued scholarship.

C.     The scholarship becomes a gift if the student completes the term for which it is granted, with a grade of “C” or above.

D.    The scholarship becomes a loan to be repaid if the recipient fails to do satisfactory work or drops out of school before completing the semester.  The amount to be repaid shall be for only the last semester given.

IV.     FUNDING:

A.    To establish the fund an initial amount of $2,000.00 will be allocated.  Thereafter the Scholarship Fund is to be funded through five percent of the annual donations to the DHF of NC, individual gifts, and special appeals if necessary.

B.     A minimum of $2,000.00 of funds are to be available for scholarships annually.
