Workgroup Meeting – Nov. 30, 2014 at Unity CC

The Disciple Heritage Fellowship of North Carolina (DHF of NC) workgroup met at Unity Christian Church with 20 persons present. The meeting was opened in prayer by Mark Lunceford from Richlands FCC.

Rev. Lynn Maxwell from Pleasant Hill CC reported that the fellowship’s web site was under development. The Web site is http://www.dhfofnc.com. Lynn opened the floor for discussion on what things should be on the web site. It was suggested that a summary of the workgroup meetings should be posted, but not the entire details of the meeting.

Lynn brought up DHF’s document on Ministerial Ordination and asked that we review it for our use. Rev. Roger Noble from Tuckahoe CC and Danny Bailey from Amity CC volunteered to review the document and make recommendations to the workgroup.

Lynn also brought up the DHF Membership Application for ministers desiring to join the DHF Ministerial Association. We need to think about those desiring to gain ministerial recognition by DHF in Lovington, Ill., and those who may desire to just identify with our local fellowship. Gary asked that Lynn Maxwell and Rev. Rick Vernon from the 902 church review this document and report back to the workgroup.

Mr. Jeremy Holley from Richlands FCC presented a potential outreach program to the group. Jeremy has been working on establishing a Disaster Response Ministry. The country has experienced many devastating tornadoes and hurricanes over the past few years which inspired Jeremy, who is the “Fire Rescue Division Head” for Onslow County Emergency Services, to work on establishing “Wrapped In Love Disaster Ministry.” The ministry would basically go onsite in any disaster and put tarps on houses that had suffered roof damage to prevent further loss of property inside home. This would also entail cutting trees off and away from roofs to prevent further damage. The ministry would train volunteers who would like to be serve in the ministry.  Jeremy asked that all churches keep this effort in prayer and potentially help sponsor the ministry. For further information, he can be reached at 910-340-9911. The ministry’s email is wrappedinlovedisasterministry@gmail.com. He also has a Facebook page by the same name. Jeremy has put together a wish list of items that would be needed by the ministry.

Gary Edens suggested the time was approaching for the fellowship to come together for a special day of celebration, worship, a fellowship meal, and preaching. The group discussed various dates and decided on April 25, 2015 as the target date. Everyone was excited about the potential for such a gathering.

Robert Reynolds from Pleasant Hill CC presented the workgroup with several potential logos for consideration. Everyone is asked to submit their recommendations to Robert so that we can select a logo for our fellowship.

I would like to note that Betty Stowe submitted a church membership form for Unity Christian Church making them the first church to officially join the fellowship. We are hoping that other churches will soon follow their example.

Our next meeting will be held on January 25, 2015 at Pleasant Hill CC at 4:00 p.m. We look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting. Many thanks to Unity CC who provided great refreshments for the meeting.
